After driving through wind and weather, we finally arrived at our location, far away from the city and street lights of Rovaniemi. What we found was a clear and very picturesque view to the northern sky. We could even see the Milky Way for some time. But most important: we saw the northern lights!

We stopped on our way to the destination to check for first signs of northern lights. Very early we could already see that the sky will be crystal clear. Upon arrival on our hilltop we could have a glance at a phenomenal clear sky filled with hundreds and thousands of stars! What a view!

We have spent a beautiful night out in the wilderness. The fire in the tepee kept us warm. We enjoyed tasty grilled food and had drinks while listening to the stories about our future told us by the traditional shamanism ritual. We had a laugh and a very nice time!   Click this link to…

Even though the sky was cloudy in the beginning, it did not take away the excitement of waiting and talking about the northern lights. We have spent a nice evening around the fire while the sky got better and better. Did we enjoy a lovely evening together? Absolutely yes!

After seeing the northern lights from the very beginning, we decided to wait outside to see if the lights would get better. And the lights played along very well! Just before leaving back home Mother Nature showed us a spectacular display of northern lights.

Just after we arrived on our little hilltop, the northern lights were already visible to the naked eye. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of a spectacular night filled with perfect northern lights!

Tonight as the snow fell outside we gathered around the fires to enjoy this aspect of Lapland life. The warm glow and dancing flames lifting spirits while we enjoyed our food and warm drinks. Tonight the Lapland landscape was brilliant white illuminated by the full moon, even the trees with their covering of snow helped reflect the light. The northern lights were hiding in the slight haze which glowed in the  moonlight, just like playing hide and seek. From time to time they became bright enough to be spotted and pictures taken.
