The northern lights were behind the cloud from the time we arrived to our destination, we watched as the light changed in brightness. Then from the west the sky became bright and as the firestorm moved across the sky it appeared to rise up until it was above us. We got everyone out to watch this moment and as the bright light behind the cloud was above us you could see that it was red so clearly, for me a first to see the red light colour through cloud. These brightest moments do not last long and the sky returned to its earlier brightness which was green through the camera. The stars began to appear after another 10 minutes or so, just one then two, three and then there were the northern lights across the sky above our heads but quite pale by now. The sky cleared and we watched as the northern lights continued to change brightness, then just as we were about to leave the northern lights again danced across the sky, just green but bright and what an ending to a fantastic night at our location.
