Tonight as soon as we reached the hill top the twilight still very strong the northern lights were up for the competition of who is the brightest. They reached all the way across the sky and then very tall fingers of light streaked up into space. We had to wait until the day light brightness faded so we could capture the beautiful colors in this display, but what a night it was. We had counted the mountain hares on the way out of town and we continued to do this on the return journey too. We managed to spot 20 fine specimens of this animal on our trip tonight, they must have been out to watch the northern lights as well as us.
