Day trip to the Ice Sea and Kirkenes in Norway.

A totally unforgettable experience awaits you on the frozen fjords of Kirkenes, Norway. This is your chance to learn how to catch this mysterious creature – King Crab.

We start our day in Saariselka at 5.30 AM. First we drive passing Ivalo and Kaamanen to Sevettijarvi that is one of the last mostly sami populated villages in Europe. There we visit a local farm and enjoy our breakfast.

After crossing the border we will approach the coast line and town of Kirkenes where we will find the Snow Hotel site. From there we make the actual crab fishing tour to the arctic sea.

On this ultimate arctic summer boat excursion we will head out from Kirkenes harbor, and out the fjord toward the Barents sea. With seagulls gawking above, our fisherman guides will take you for a marine sightseeing outside Kirkenes. Sometimes porpoises (arctic dolphins) pops up around the boat, and stick around for a while. Then we head out for the cages, which are sunk deep to catch the biggest king crabs. You will be hands on deck, and help pull the cages from the depths of the Varanger fjord.

After the catch is secured, the journey will continue to a rustic restaurant by the fjord. Here the King of crabs is served the classic northern Norwegian way. Pure, fresh and heavenly tasty!

There is no limit to how much crab you may eat, so prepare for a feast!

Every single crab we serve, is caught wild and fresh, with your help, straight from the polar ocean. This unique boat tour has become very popular, and guests visit us both by plane via Oslo, bus via Lapland, Finland and not to mention the Hurtigruten Norway cruise boat. You may even book the tour onboard Hurtigruten.  You can go hunting crabs while the boat is in dock in Kirkenes and be back in time for departure.

Returning to Finland. On the way we usually meet packs of wild reindeer and see impressive tundra views.
