The silver grey sky gradually turned green through the camera as the evening progressed. We spent time around the fire enjoying this aspect of Finnish wilderness culture, the food getting the all important flavor from the burning birch wood. Then the sky brightened, and sure enough the whole sky was pale green through the camera. The northern lights were performing over our heads, their light reflecting off the snow and illuminating the landscape for us. These nights without the moon allow us to appreciate the light level changes the northern lights are capable of.
